Excalibur

What you didn't know about Excalibur (15 min read)

When did you begin DJing?
I started listening then buying music, then started DJing at a tender age.
I also selected and worked with some sound systems in the past Casanova International and I think the other it was called Tornado Sound and I believe there was one more, I cannot recall the name at the moment.
My interest in music styles grew the more I was exposed to music from around the world, the more I appreciated it and the end product (the music itself) the more I enjoyed and passion grew for the process of the artwork and involvement with music.
I’ve found that as my taste for different sounds as well as combinations of beats, styles changed and evolved over the years, the more my music collection grows.
Worked with Men in Black, Bigga Fish, Flavor Force and Bang Ed to name a few…

Out of the many genres of House music, which are your favorites?
I’d honestly say there’s a few that stand out and comes to mind but you should consider experiencing my DJ sets and listen to my mixes as well as the tunes I play to get a clear idea. I like Gospel, Italia, Soulful, Latin, Funky, Afro House, Chicago House and old school house and garage as well as a few more…

Do you enjoy DJing?
Yes I do

What are your thoughts about music?
I will say this… I believe there’s good music and bad music in the world today (and I’m not only talking about quality of music).
Good music will bring about a good spirit, good feelings maybe even good emotions, it will affect you differently compared to bad music, just think of all the music that has been made up until now… So again I say it this way, there is a high possibility that a bad spirit or spirits will attract to the listeners and the makers of bad music, and the opposite to bad music is good music…resulting in good emotions, positivity and good spirit or spirits, and the like that will attract to good music supports and lovers.
Like attracts like, good attracts good. Bad attracts bad.
Remember…

A little birdie told me that the RnB, Gospel Soulful House, especially your Drum and Bass DJ sets you play is really good, quite something to experience…
Really? That’s a knowable birdie that you heard that from. It has been and is a pleasure. Thank you, those were some special moments in time past that I’m grateful for. I’m thankful, may there be more in the future.

Also a different birdie told me you’re a good host too?
It’s been said that I’m a better host than a DJ… I’ve been contemplating it (hosting) for some time now, lol but I’m much older now, I mean mature age lol. A good friend said to me that M.C’s are just shouting at the ravers now days. Shouting at people, listeners and dancers don’t really appeal to me too much if I’m being honest, some people go for it, but let’s say that your trying to build something like a brand, an M.C shouting all over your set and music at people may not be the vibe you want to convey, it might not be the perception you want with your circle, business nor brand, so you may not want that. But there are still some good M.C’s and host around, not many that I’ve heard but they are some somewhere I’m sure. There’s a time and place for everything, and there’s a time and place for MC’s and DJ’s too.
Promoters have a job to do when it comes to the bill, line up, headliners and performers.

What do you prefer, DJing at events/sets on your own, or do you prefer working with an M.C or M.C’s?
I am capable, flexible and adaptable. I am thankful. I am experienced and skillful enough that I have done and can do both, play gigs, sets, event’s etc.
on my own – just a DJ set or with a good M.C/s.

Name some highlights in your time of DJing?
There’s been many that I remember, most if not all live events I’ve DJ’d at, has been highlights for me. The people that I have met and bonded with over moments, get-togethers, events and relationship’s that have fostered and blossomed has been a real treat (I was the best that could have been at the time back then, and that may not have been very good because I had a lot of things going on and problems but I’ve only got better now and that season is in the past, I’ll do better next time). But, getting back to the question, all the Live community radio stations I was on, stands out as highlighted events as part of history and adding to the culture and movement… that was a special experience and passionate period of time for me that I also reminisce and often remember as highlights because I did that for years and I’ll never forget. The festivals that I’ve played at, the tunes in the park to many people, I wouldn’t mind djing at more festivals and carnivals in the future, God willing.
DJing overseas and international is an experience in its self. DJing at Carnival at Notting Hill Gate alongside Sharky.P, Versa (V2G) and Perch amazing vibe, loved it. DJing at Night called BLESSED back to back with djleejunior. Gass Club Wickham Street Lester Square. Corks Wine Bar Bond Street West End, London England. The Dome Night Club Tufnell Park back to back with DJ Spoony 1999. Harrow Club Moonlight back to back with Dice (Flavor Force alongside Heavy Artillery) another good set back in the day.
Being in magazines and other people liking, loving and playing my tunes has also been highlighted in the time I’ve been DJing.

Have you done any production?
Let me say this I started making beats in secondary school for my music class, and the music teacher even mentioned he noticed my skill for making music in my end of year report.
In the past I would messing around with instruments like the piano, keyboard, Hammond organ, trombone, drums, little guitar and violin but didn’t release any productions up until now.
Tinkering round on instruments and making instrumentals is something I’ve always done from my teenage years. Music has always been playing in my home as a child, so there’s been a musical presence weather we’re singing, listening or playing as well as creating and coving songs.
To answer your question yes, mainly instrumentals and beat making… hip-hop, house kind of 4 to the floor would be the genre closes to the kind of productions I’ve made in the past in my own style and ways some dance, house, a little broken beats. I was sitting on stuff I’ve created I made for a while, and just decided to put some out. I put out a few beats for download via Hearthis.at just for supporters, dj’s and music lovers and fans to enjoy. You can find some of them on YouTube and at
hearthis.at/excalibur-express-global-show-t9/#tracks and

I created “The Code (Hectic Club Mix)” my tracks is getting a great response as well as many of my mixes and DJ sets.
I have been working with many truly talented and gifted artists some of the best and many people have been reaching out to me and I’ve made many good friends along the way.
