A colorful mix of exciting music: Featuring albums by Los Piranas, Rosettes, Danzon El Gato, Cymande, Singles from Kim Tolliver, Johnny Adams, Jimi Tenor, Kokoroko and the compilation "Horse Meat Disco presents Disco & Boogie from Brasil Volume 1"

In this Soul Unlimited episode, you can expect a colorful mix of varied and exciting music.
It starts with two new 45 singles from the Spanish label Soul 4 Real Records, who have once again unearthed wonderful songs from the late 60s and early 70s, which they are releasing on 7″ vinyl for the first time. This time it’s songs by Kim Tolliver and Johnny Adams, both of which are really great.
Recent recordings released on the Penrose label follow and there are songs by Thee Sacred Souls, Junior Scaife and The Altons.

The first album performance is by the legendary Cymande, who have released a new album after 10 years with “Renascence”. On the new album they return stylistically to the classic sound of the band in the 70s. A very nice album!

Over the years, an extremely creative music scene has formed around the Finnish label Timmion Records, from which very exciting new projects and bands are constantly emerging. The most recent example is the Rosettes, an eight-piece band from Helsinki, whose debut album invites us on a captivating journey into psychedelic soul, jazzy funk and introspective grooves. A great debut for the band founded in 2020, which I really like!

This is followed by a musical change of direction, as the Spanish project Danzón El Gato opens up a kaleidoscope of different rhythms with echoes of North Africa, the tropics and Latin America on their debut album “El Sonido Bastardo”. Danzón El Gato consists of Javier Adan and Santiago Rapallo, who are both active in Madrid’s experimental underground scene. With their debut album, they have created a cosmopolitan sound experiment that is incredibly fun!

The Colombian avant-garde Latin experimentalists from Los Pirañas are a true supergroup, as the three musicians are also active in several other well-known bands, such as the Meridian Brothers, Ondatropica, Frente Cumbiero and Romperayo. With their new album “Una Oportunidad más de triunfar en la vida”, they have achieved a great success. They have created completely unconventional music that pushes the boundaries of instrumental Latin American music with strong influences from psychedelia, dub and more. The result is a new, quite wild sound. Great, the record of the week!

Finally, there is another album highlight. It’s the compilation “Horse Meat Disco presents Disco & Boogie From Brazil Volume 1”. The compilation is excellent and contains numerous rare top tunes. The Horse Meat Disco crew, who are proven experts in the field, are responsible for this. Their weekly club night of the same name has been based at Eagle London, an LGBTQ bar and club in London’s Vauxhall district, since 2003.
Enjoy listening to this episode!
