Meet the inspiration behind some of the greatest music ever made: all of the tracks featured in this set were part of the soundtrack to my young life (1985-1992), having been sampled by the likes of Gang Starr, Eric B & Rakim, Young Disciples, Jungle Brothers, Nas, Q-Tip, NWA, Massive Attack, De La Soul, Beastie Boys, Kid 'N Play, Public Enemy, BDP, Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock, and Soul II Soul. I got into funk & rare groove after that, and it became a game for me picking out the samples I knew and recognised. This is just a taste of some of those hits which have stayed with me since those younger days. It would have been easy to chuck a whole lotta of James Brown in here, but I settled for 2 of my personal faves, including a rare full-length version of 'Don't Tell It'. And there's plenty of JB influence throughout the set, anyway!

On a treasure map it is said "X marks the spot" - and with some of the finest funk to ever strut the street, I think you'll agree that buried treasure has been unearthed in this very place. Enjoy! :))
