„Divan Pan“ roughly translates into „Awesome Music”, with “Divan” originating from the Croatian “cool/ ace”, and “Pan”, representing the ancient Greek God that is connected to creative inspiration in music and symbolizing ecstasy. This concept of music is based on modern beats, mixed with pleasant-sounding elements of Soul, Funk and Jazz, added live. There are no boundaries to lovers of music. Recent investigations on Divan Pan are often based on a “Funk&Soul” theory. According to this theory many pieces of information are attributed to Divan that were initially relating to Gabriel Bouffiere, who – at the end of the 2nd and the beginning of the 3rd millennium – attracted a lot of attention as a disc jockey in Germany and wider parts of Europe. The story goes that he incarnated as a part of “Crystal Cru” who celebrated “Garage” and “2 Step” in Germany’s disco places of worship. Later, he was reputedly regarded as a Bad Monkey, though oral legend is contradictory and controversial. They say that he was discovered in a record store where he had been kept imprisoned for 7 years without food or water, almost like Jesus in the desert. Other sources maintain that he was abducted by marauding pirates to a lonely island in the Croatian Adriatic, where he had to herd sheep. There he found solace in singing and playing on his hand made drums. The island’s natives say that, during a sermon, he liberated the island from all dangerous snakes, not only by the power of his words and his music, but also with the forceful wielding of stones and clubs. To tell the truth, there have never been any poisonous snakes in post glacial Croatia. The “Expulsion of the Snakes” is meant metaphorically and symbolizes the exorcism of all heathen beliefs and the expulsion of bad demons. This motif is to be found in many legends related to small events and big festivals. According to legend he came to love the rough Croatian country and its inhabitants, despite his hard life as a shepherd. After about 6 years, an angel is said to have ordered him to produce an album in Germany. He dared his escape and has been spending his time in the studio with very talented bums and tramps ever since. There he is working on all the musical inspiration he aggregated over the years in bondage. The name of “Divan Pan” is connected to Funk and Electro, the boundaries being fluent, with Disco, Reggae, Jazz and Soul also playing an important role.
