Fanbei Mousai

St. Charles, United States

Fanbei Mousai (aka the original dj demigod) expresses himself though the mixes he creates. Every mix is a story with a message. Whether it is an introspective, personal journey of feelings, emotions, thoughts or spiritual beliefs, to love and relationships, an interesting night out, clubbing, or the state of current affairs, his mixes capture the essence of what deep tech jackin’ house should be.

In 1982, shortly after graduating high school, Fanbei Mousai got his first gig as an on-air radio host and news reporter for WFXW – 1480 AM, where he won several station awards for production work, creative commercials and news stories. In 1985, Mark was hired by WDEK – 92.5 FM as a radio personality. Working his way up through the ranks, becoming a critical and crucial part of various management teams, and achieving a high level of acclaim for his work, Fanbei Mousai was recruited by Discovery Dance Club (the largest dance club in the nation at the time) in 1989. From 1989 to 1995, he served as the Supervisor and Director of Operations & Entertainment, Emcee and DJ.

Though Fanbei Mousai is a self-taught “hot mixer”, he perfected his DJ/nightclub/entertainment skills along side the likes of: Chuck Weissmueller, Kevin Halstead, Alex Peace, Frankie “Hollywood” Rodriguiz, Julian “Jumpin” Perez, Tim “Spinnin” Schomer, and Richard “Humpty” Vision. On the entertainment side, Fanbei Mousai has played host and Emcee to such acts/stars/performers as: “Bad Boy Bill”, Bobby D., “Bubba The Love Sponge”, Casmiere, Danny DeVito, DUICE/LA Snow, “Fast Eddie”, D’ZYRE, Famous Artists Talent Agency, “Georgie Porgie”, Gillette, Hollywood Records, Icy Blu, Inner City, Giggles, L.A.W., Legacy, Miranda, The Party, The Movement, Real 2 Real Featuring The Mad Stuntman, Soul System, Sound Factory, Tommy E., “Too Kool Chris”, Lidell Townsell & M.T.F. and many more.

Fanbei Mousai is also credited with being one of the first DJ’s that kicked off the Vegas Nightclub explosion. In 2000, prior to the nightclub boom, Fanbei Mousai, along with his company MEGA PRO Innovative Nightclub Creations, was hired by MIRAGE RESORTS, INC. to spearhead a 4 month project to prove to the casino that a nightclub atmosphere was a viable and profitable venture for a casino lounge. Mark exalted the average weekly attendance by 62.5% within 3 months.

Never one to turn his back on a fellow dj in need, Fanbei Mousai has been instrumental in helping and teaching many of today’s young dj upstarts their skills. Mark has over 30 years of experience as a professional DJ and has held residencies in over 25 bars, nightclubs, lounges and various entertainment based ventures. Additionally, Fanbei Mousai considers himself a “DJ Activist” and is an active member, founder and administrator of various DJ Guilds which work towards recognition, and the betterment of all dj’s and the profession.

In 2010, Mark was featured in the November issue of Barlife Magazine (DJ Spotlight). Currently, Fanbei Mousai consistently ranks in the TOP 10 Local Dj’s on Reverb Nation.
Don’t get things twisted. Fanbei Mousai IS NOT your typical Top40 DJ nor does he pander to a crowd. Mark enjoys dropping the newest, hottest tracks available along with dropping some classic vocal house a capella’s over some dope tracks!

In his own words, “I am a dj/artist… a true artist. As a dj and artist, self expression is essential and a key component of my embodied work(s). My medium/canvas is music and verse. So when it comes to putting together a mix, conceptual cd album and creating my own album covers, I am creating an hour (+) long story… my story. I want to tell my story in a fluent manner. It must have continuity. It must have a beginning, middle and an end. There should be low points, high points, love, hate, conflict, and resolution. The story, like any good book/poem, movie, or painting, must convey the artist’s feelings, emotions, or life changing events. It must have meaning. A true painter does not paint a picture so that the public will like it. The painter paints for self expression. I, like the painter, don’t throw a bunch of popular songs together just so that it sells more copies or makes it more popular/marketable to the masses. I don’t pick songs just to throw into a generic mix. The song(s) pick me by speaking to me and my current feelings or emotions. I only have a short time to pour out my soul through music, verse and mix. I can only hope that my fans will relate and connect with me on the same level and understand the story… my story. After my set(s), I am emotionally drained. You have to let your guard down and open the emotional, physical and mental doors of your soul. It’s a giving of ones self, letting people into your most personal feelings, thoughts, emotions and sometimes fears. It’s very much like standing naked in the middle of a crowded stadium. You are not a “true” artist if you do anything less than that.”

Keeping true to his roots, DJ/Producer/DJ Activist/Artist, Fanbei Mousai has created and released over 12, hour long hot-mix cd’s including his own original artwork and remixes showcasing his unique blend of house, deep house, tech house, jackin’ house and drum and bass stylings:
