Loosh (Luz)

United Kingdom

Luz, pronounced "Loosh" means light in Portuguese, but it is also the surname of siblings Squirrel and Luz who together with their friend Kat have been experimenting for years with mixing their native Brazilian rhythms with folky guitars, Indie and Jazzy elements all tied up with soft Brazilian female vocals with a touch of Bossa Nova melancholy to it.
Far from being traditional, Loosh brings a new feel to Brazilian music, that of a group not afraid of experimenting, expanding, creating on a much loved style but without corrupting it, for the rhythm and bossa, does come imprinted in their DNAs.
Loosh started in their native Brazil in 1985 as Kafka and later on as Kaddish and as a 5 piece. They went to London in 1989 where the band changed name to Felix Fritz and their style also changed from a sole Indie feel to a mixture of Indie music and Brazilian rhythms, which they continue to work on until today. When their drummer Sergio left the band in 1990 the quartet was called Dancyn'Days and there was a slight shift in style to using Brazilian string instruments and a more Folk approach then when the Singer Brent Hieatt left in 1992 the trio went back to their Native Brazil for 3 years when the keyboard player Luz started to sing. They went back to their Indie Rock roots and called themselves at first Redskins then Zen Arcade and Seven Miles High but since their heart really belonged to this mixture of Brazilian and Indie Music they returned to this approach in the naughties at first called Luz then Loosh.
Loosh is primarily a recorded work since it's members now live in three different Countries, namely England, Spain and Sweden, and make music by sharing music files online.
